“One Step Above The Rest”
Henry Bockman, the President of Henry's Housework Inc. organized a group project to restore Germantown's secluded park at the corner of Route 118 and Middlebrook Road in Germantown, Maryland. They did this in an effort to give back to the community in which they operate. The venture was also done as an example for other local businesses in the hope that others would also get involved to help care for and maintain our community. Henry Bockman contacted numerous officials in the state and local governments to find a suitable project that would make an impact on the local community. After convincing Jim McMahon and Rosemary Nichols of the Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commission of our sincerity were given the opportunity to restore the Germantown Square Park. The groups pressure washed the benches, trash can enclosures, walkways and stone retaining walls to remove graffiti, mildew,
accumulated dirt and cleaned up all the litter in the entire park. The Germantown Gems also helped with this project by cleaning up all the trash and other debris in the park.
The Germantown Gems is a local Pom and Twirl group led by Cheryl Crosby. For more information on the group, go to their website at:

The difference that the group made in this Local Park is overwhelming. Many people were amazed what a small group of people can do when they pursue a goal and accomplish it. Thanks to the support of Jim McMahon and The Germantown Gems, this company proved that even a small group of people
could make a tremendous change in a small community. Jim McMahon, Park Manager for the Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commission, wrote the group a letter and thanked them for their
services stating: "On behalf of the Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commission, I
would like to thank you for donating your services to improve the appearance of Germantown Square Park. The pressure washing you performed on the walkways, benches, trashcans, etc., have really improved the appearance of this park. It has given the park a much 'fresher' look. We sincerely appreciate the
donation of your company's services. Please convey our thanks to The Germantown Gems organization as well."
